ANALYSIS OF THE EQUIVALENT CURRENTS SYSTEM SQ BEHAVIOUR PRODUCED BY THE FIRST SHOCK FRONT ARRIVAL FROM A G5 GEOMAGNETIC STORM
Abstract
one of the most intense of this century, reaching levels G4 to G5 on the NOAA classification scale. Since the ejecta
have supersonic speeds, they cause a shock wave. Upon reaching the terrestrial environment, it produces significant
variations in the geomagnetic field. In the present paper it is analyzed the perturbation of the system of equivalent
ionospheric currents due to the arrival of the first shock wave, using the records of ten permanent geomagnetic stations.
In order to provide a possible interpretation of the relationships that could be established during the first hour after
the arrival of the shock wave, the linking model among the different systems of equivalent currents and the different
geomagnetic indices that represent them, is postulated.
